Vertebral Augmentation - Kyphoplasty
When pain from a vertebral fracture does not improve with medication, Kyphoplasty may be performed. Kyphoplasty is indicated for recent fractures causing persistent, non-treatable pain without neurological symptoms and is typically performed under fluoroscopic guidance, sometimes combined with CT imaging for more complex spinal levels.
SAVE SPINER Balloon Dilation Catheter Kyphoplasty Procedure (NHS)
Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure performed under general or local anaesthesia to treat painful vertebral fractures. A four step procedure involves inserting and inflating the SAVE SPINER balloon dilation catheter inside the fractured vertebra to restore height, then removing the balloon and filling the cavity with bone cement to stabilise the bone. Studies show significant pain reduction, improved mobility, correction of vertebral deformity, and rapid recovery, with a low risk of cement leakage.
Patients typically regain normal activities quickly, reducing the need for braces or medications and offering socio-economic benefits such as lower healthcare costs. As a safe and effective option—especially for osteoporotic fractures resistant to other treatments—Kyphoplasty improves quality of life, physical independence, and overall clinical outcomes.
